Good Morning European Living Labs

We are talking with Kurt Linderoos about the means to connect those persons who can't participate in the many meetings going on in relationship to LivingLabs@Work and other communities.

A chat funtion might be a good idea or an integration of skype to this platform to enhance group meetings.

* To improve the interactivity
* Real time commenting
* How about podcasts to get a voice to the community?

Living in the Innovation Labs

The Apple iPod is said to be an innvoative product. I learned a few days ago that the MP3 format and WAW originated at the Frauenhof Institute in Germany.

It would be nice to get more details about this.

Skype was Invented here on the old continent but eBay decided to make it to a part of its money machine.

EU is good on innovation but we need to think more in terms of applications and business innovations.

I haven't been here for ages. I see that Kurt has been more active. How are things in this forum? I felt it was getting pretty quiet. Feeling lonely in this environment. Hope to see more bloggers and postings. Have a great day.

Quiet but we can do something?

On Wednesday, November 8, 2006, I participated in a seminar “Hong Kong – Guangdong Your partners for success in China – 8 November 2006 Helsinki.” The Scandic Hotel ball room was full of people. Couldn’t count them all, but I guess several hundred participants and maybe one hundred Chinese and Hong Kong business development officials, entrepreneurs and businessmen / women.

Rapid economic development in China has created major opportunities in two areas: a fast expanding market for goods and services, and a sophisticated production base for manufacturers and retailers. Successful companies realise that China is not one market, but a series of regional markets. Currently, most foreign companies concentrate to the Pearl River Delta region (PRD) on the southern tip of the Chinese mainland, closely connected to Hong Kong.

Web 2.0 US and EU

What is the difference? Yesterday I was interviewed over Skype concerning Web 2.0 applications an practices at KK-Net. The audio interview will be published in the coming next days. The story is a part of the preparations for IST 2006 Helsinki and is also related to "CONSEN - CONSEN (EEIG) Euro-Group is a Grouping of European SMEs who have agreed to cooperate as Euro-Cluster in Information Society Technologies projects, tenders and business throughout Europe."

Get active, more practical

I have a feeling that we need to get down to some very practical , down to earth work, or we will continue to search for the best collaboration models for years.

- Collaboration
- Engineering
- Knowledge
- Leadership
- LivingLabs
- Logistics
- Media
- Mobility
- Rural
- SEEM
- Well-being-Services

What could be the first practical thing?

Web 2.0 a route out of the bubble?

Web 2.0 could very well be a marketing thing. As such, some of the Web 2.0 services are getting better and easier to use for the masses. Or another thing might be that the masses have learned to use web based tools much better than before the web 1.0 bubble. It can also be a path out of the bubble, into new business and application fields. Web 2.0 attracts money - at least at the west coast US and Silicon Valley. Connecting people is one thing, connecting millions of people into social networks is another thing. The connectivity thing is expanding. The web is moving towards the masses and that's what it was intended for initially, maybe? Cross-cultural and Cross-national social collaboration is an important movement. This platform is an example of that.

What can we learn from each other

I was following a blogging path from BarCamp Ireland and landed at an Irish site where I got some ideas for this blog.

http://www.argolon.com/2006/08/20/ict-champions-scheme/

ICT Ireland met to try to scope out a new initiative to encourage the take-up of home computers in Ireland and to further develop computer competence in the community sector. The aim is to help employers and employees improve their general ICT skills.

Less is more

It’s summertime and the living is easy. Nobody has time for blogging, social collaboration and creative problem solving. All the opportunities have been taken to the beach or to the typical Finnish summer cottages in the middle of nowhere at a quiet lake and no-one else than your closest friends and family at a miles distance. The less we do, more good things happen. There is ceasefire in Middle-East from this morning -- and that just happened. Even those trigger happy people down there got tired of killing each other, which is great. Peaceful cooperation might render better results in the long run.

Competitive

Can the United Europe and United States remain competitive as 3 billion people in Asia rapidly enter the global economy? It's a question asked by many people across market segments, including IT personnel who worry about offshore outsourcing and the jobs threat that poses.

What are the European numbers?

The national academies' report points out that China and India combined graduate 950,000 engineers every year, compared with 70,000 in America; that for the cost of one chemist or engineer in the U.S. a company could hire five chemists in China or 11 engineers in India; that of the 120 $1 billion-plus chemical plants being built around the world one is in the United States and 50 are in China.

Education goes online

Educators are already rethinking curriculum and pedagogy in light of the World Wide Web. Beyond the traditional three R's, students will be expected to excel in the three C's:

*	communication,
*	collaboration, and
*	creative problem-solving

They have to locate and process real-world information, exhibit technological fluency, and, most importantly, to develop the aptitude and attitude of a lifelong learner.

Good Morning Europe

Good morning Europe!

What kind of cooperation do we need in the union to engage the sleeping potentials that we have? We have about 20 million unemployed in Europe today. Big junks of workplaces will still be dispatched to China, India, Brazil and other emerging industrial nations. It’s great that the people, outside the traditional industrial western nations, can get modern factories to their countries instead of having to look for economic prosperity through travel for bread and butter from country to country. But we need to find ways of incorporating those that are now left outside.

Nordic Collaborators

I’m welcoming Finnish bloggers to be a part in this EU space. We can tell about the Finnish blogosphere and social collaboration developments.

We’d a talk over Skype with Kurt Linderoos, who is a member of this community. Our intention is to write about Social Collaboration, Grassroots Networking, Personal EU, and how to get us Europeans to work and innovate together.

We will discuss the practical problems of using collaborative tools and how to narrow the digital divide. There are lots of passive Internet (Web 1.0) users, but our goal is to get us Finns and other Europeans to do much more cross border collaboration.
