Less is more

It’s summertime and the living is easy. Nobody has time for blogging, social collaboration and creative problem solving. All the opportunities have been taken to the beach or to the typical Finnish summer cottages in the middle of nowhere at a quiet lake and no-one else than your closest friends and family at a miles distance. The less we do, more good things happen. There is ceasefire in Middle-East from this morning -- and that just happened. Even those trigger happy people down there got tired of killing each other, which is great. Peaceful cooperation might render better results in the long run.

I read that bloggers have been active on both sides writing and reporting and giving inside information about the effects of the war on the hyper-local level. Generals and propaganda machineries have to take in account the blogosphere and there was the talk about Photo-shopped pictures from Reuters who tried to stage the war and make it even more dramatic. But we live in an open society with information flowing almost freely in all directions.

Europe has learned to live in peace after decades of struggle and wars. Small countries and bigger ones try to work together and build a better world. Europe has been accused for stagnation, for the lack of dynamics that we really don’t innovate and create that much. Maybe we don’t need it as much anymore while we don’t destroy what we have built by bombs and evil strategies.

Maybe we are doing less but getting more out from the pipeline anyway. Destructive creativity isn’t the European way of life anymore and I hope that will continue. Have a great summer at the beach! See you all when you return to your desk- and laptops. Have fun.
